Contraindications

In case of examinations without contrast

  • pregnancy

In case of examinations with contrast

  • chronic renal disease in decompensation stage
  • allergy to iodine
  • individual intolerance to the contrast agent
  • The examination cannot be performed on patients with high degrees of obesity (weight more than 100 kg)

Duration

In most cases, duration of CT is no more than 10-15 minutes. An examination with contrast requires more time and takes from 30 to 40 minutes. During this period, the patient lies inside the tomograph as motionless as possible. If necessary, sedation (anesthesia) can be used.

Booking

Attendance is strictly by appointment

The patient must have the following documents: ID card/passport/residence permit. Physician’s referral or a written recommendation of a physician in the consultative sheet / abstract of outpatient medical record (if available)

Preparation for the examination (CT of the abdominal cavity)

  • A few days before the procedure, a patient should follow a diet excluding gas-forming products (legumes, fresh fruits, chocolate, dairy products, carbonated drinks). Moreover, it is recommended to take activated charcoal or Espumisan 3 times a day, by 1-2 tablets.
  • The examination is performed strictly on an empty stomach (except for CT of bones, extremities and brain). The last meal should be at least 5-6 hours before the procedure. Short fasting reduces peristalsis of the gastrointestinal tract that allows tracking the smallest changes in the organs. If the procedure is appointed for early morning, you can have dinner no later than at 19.00 – 20.00.
  • Attend the examination in loose, comfortable clothes.

In case of a diagnosis with contrast, it is necessary to:

  • do a biochemical blood test for creatinine, as the drug is excreted by the kidneys and it is important to exclude a violation of their function
  • do not eat 4 hours before the procedure and drink more fluid;
  • a referral from the consulting physician with a justification of the procedure’s necessity is required during the examination;
  • wear comfortable clothes without metallic parts and remove metal accessories.
